Victoria Hand (played by Saffron Burrows in Agents of SHIELD) was a prominent SHIELD agent who at the time of her death oversaw the Hub, a notable SHIELD facility. As a member of upper-level management, Victoria had a great deal of authority and the respect of many other agents, although she was also understood to be something of a hardass who wasn't exactly easy to please. Also prior to her death, Victoria was in a romantic relationship with fellow agent Isabelle Hartley, though it wasn't a well-publicized fact. After the Hydra takeover, Victoria was murdered by turncoat agent Grant Ward, but the writer defaults to pretending this was merely a grave injury that she ultimately overcame in order to thread her with characters who are canon-current. It stands to reason that if a character interacted with or worked for SHIELD, they would probably have at least met Victoria.
Victoria also features in a variety of Marvel comics, which the writer is aware of but not overly familiar with as of yet.
